Since we were teenagers, women have been offered the promise that we could have it all: career, love, success, money and so much more. The caveat is that having it all comes with a lot of doing, and without a guarantee of contentment or fulfilment. It’s not surprising that many women arrive at midlife exhausted, unhappy and wondering what went wrong.

In Forget About Having It All®, Lisa Petty, PhD explores the myth of having it all and the social expectations that hold women to an impossible standard. Dr. Petty highlights the norms and beliefs that frame our daily lives, often without much conscious thought from us. But with a shift in how we perceive the world, Petty shows how women can unplug from the programming that tells us what we should want, so we can focus on creating what we do want in our lives.

Through a combination of research and observation from her personal journey of midlife self-discovery, Petty offers practical advice and exercises for women who are ready to embrace their innate wisdom and create their own path.

A great read for women at midlife ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sometimes we just need a reminder or nudge that we’re doing okay; Lisa’s book is just that. The concept of having it all is impractical, but taking the time to figure out what you want, what you can let go of, and who you (already) are is worthwhile. Lisa offers sensible tools to give you the courage to do that. ~ Sarah D

Living Authentically ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I highly recommend this book! It simultaneously provides a clear and inspiring call to action for women to create lives that they are authentically aligned with, while candidly addressing how woman have been fed unsupportive beliefs and taught to toe the line that society sets. This is an excellent resource, filled with awareness-building reflections and prompts that are geared to women who are ready to invest into their self care, make themselves a priority, while leaving behind society expectations and the unhealthy and ineffective notion of ‘having it all’…so they can have lives they truly want and need.

The truth about having it all and being a woman in 2022 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book and the blend of research-based perspective and real life experience that Lisa employed in the telling. Time after time I could see myself and my experiences in her words. Recognizing that all of those experiences and feelings are real and that I share them with so many woman is truly helpful. And Lisa provides some great tips and tricks, while recognizing how hard it can be to get started, on how to change both behaviors and feelings. A quick, easy and engaging read that every woman can identify herself in. ~ Helen L

Forget About Having It All is an excellent read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was very informative. Lisa covered the various issues that midlife women face in todays world. She expertly blended research with words from women she interviewed for the book. I found that by the mid point I was feeling so much better about the dilemmas I am facing – knowing I am not alone in my frustration, anger and resentment. AND that I am not going crazy. Lisa highlights on page after page how society’s roles and expectations are a heavy (impossible) burden for all women. Lisa writes in a very comfortable and easy to read style – at times it felt like I was listening to a friend speak. ~ Jill Shea

For all women ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Every woman should read this book, which lays bare the still-present pressure on women to be everything to everyone. Well-researched – you’ll be nodding your head yes and wondering why we still allow this message to permeate our daughters’ lives. ~thesmalldogrules
