For women who came of age in the 80s, even perfume commercials showed us we had to bring home the bacon, cook it, and do it in a stunning designer dress with full make-up and hair before reminding the man of the house about his sexual needs.
And we tried.
We moved about in a man’s world, and proved we could be just like men in many ways.
We got out of our emotions (there’s no room for crying in baseball or boardrooms, after all) and locked into our logical, critical minds.
We let ourselves be disrespected in oh-so-many-ways in our careers and relationships, because we were as cool as any “one of the guys.” (Can’t you take a joke?)
We learned to compete to get ahead.
We tried to fit into conflicting ideals: We had to be nurturing yet assertive, independent yet accommodating, and ambitious yet modest. A perfect mother and a dedicated employee.
It’s a recipe for failure. Or at least feeling like one.
Then we went home and did most of the child-rearing. Most of the housework. Most of the mental labour as we made sure all the balls in this craziness we created stayed in the air.
No wonder we got tired and frustrated. Maybe even sick. That can happen when you ignore your physical, mental and emotional needs for too long.
Over time, as we exercised the muscles we needed to use to succeed in man’s world, we moved further and further away from what makes us divinely feminine.
We forgot that divine feminine traits are as essential to life as masculine ones.
We forgot that our emotions are a poignant part of our experience.
We forgot to protect our boundaries.
We forgot to use our voices to speak our wisdom.
We forgot to tune into our intuition for guidance.
We forgot that women thrive in collaboration and community.
We forgot that we are all connected.
We forgot the healing and peace of nature.
We forgot that life flows, and to be open to the flow.
We forgot how powerfully creative we are.
We forgot who we are.
We forgot how to Be.
That is the Woman Wound.
And we can see its impact everywhere. Without the powerful feminine holding ground, the world is off kilter.
We can see it in the violence across the globe. We can see it in misogynistic movies and song lyrics. We can see it in the rise in human trafficking. We can see it in increasing unkindness. We can see it in road rage and keyboard warring. We can see it in the promotion of alcohol and drug use to numb the pain and uncertainty. We can see it in the hopelessness, isolation and fear programmed into us at every turn.
But the energy of the divine feminine is rising. Maybe you’re feeling the stirrings. You’re being called to step into your purpose, create your legacy. Be the Change.
The Dalai Lama once said that Western women will save the world.
Let’s do this.
Sending you so much love,
Lisa
